Who Is a Good Candidate for Sealants?
90% of Americans will have at least one cavity at some point during their lives. Between sugary foods and how easy it can be to forget to brush your teeth, these problems are unfortunately very common.
Sealants are a great choice for anyone looking to reduce their chances for getting cavities. They’re especially recommended for adults who have struggled with cavities in the past, or those who eat a lot of sugar.
Our Gardendale dentist does not place sealants on teeth that currently have cavities. In these situations, we will provide any necessary fillings or cleanings before placing the sealants.
What to Expect When You Get Sealants
We recommend getting your sealants replaced every two to four years, as this ensures your teeth are well-protected. Sealants can last up to 10 years, but after four, their efficacy reduces by more than half.
While sealants can help prevent cavities, they're no replacement for brushing, flossing, and visiting a dentist at least once every six months.
