Crowns & Bridges
When patients come to us with one or more missing teeth, crowns and bridges are two common solutions we recommend.
Crowns
If you have a big portion of your tooth that is decayed or fractured, but your tooth can still be saved, then you are a good candidate for a crown.
Crowns are full-coverage restorations designed to protect and restore the integrity of the tooth while giving it an esthetic and natural appearance. Typically, crowns will be used if the tooth is too damaged for a filling but not damaged enough to necessitate extraction.
Bridges
If you have some missing teeth and are looking for an option to replace them with a fixed restoration, then you are probably a good candidate for bridges.
Bridges are a very similar treatment option to crowns but will have attached teeth to replace missing teeth or restore a gap.
To be a good candidate, the teeth adjacent to the gap need to be healthy enough to support the crowns. You also need sufficient jawbone density.
what to expect?
When teeth are prepped for crown and bridges, post-operative sensitivity is very normal and expected. The tooth will be covered with a temporary crown or bridge while the final restoration is being made in the dental laboratory.
We will schedule a subsequent appointment with you to deliver the final restoration.
what to expect from this procedure
Once you have your crowns and bridges, it’s important to brush twice a day and floss at least once daily. Along with helping to prevent further oral health issues, this also protects your restoration.
Additionally, it’s important to go to the dentist at least twice a year for checkups. This gives us the opportunity to check the restoration and ensure there aren’t any issues.
